and magazines
differences:
- cosmopolitan is stereotypically for women however GQ is stereotypically for men
- cosmopolitan is the only one with puffs
- different colour pallets
similarities:
- both have a star vehicle
- both have cover lines around the out side
- both of the star vehicles are wearing jewellery
In the 2 magazines cosmopolitan and GQ, the gender is represented as more girly and confident in cosmopolitan this is done as a stereotypical woman's magazine especially with a pinky purple colour pallet. However, in the magazine GQ which is stereotypically for men a common connotation used here could be how the star vehicle is dressed in a tuxedo furthermore in GQ theres more of a blue dull unsaturated colour scheme. In both of the magazines however the star vehicles are dressed quite formal and professional. Both star vehicles are celebrities to form a borrowed interest for our audience.
- tom daily is zesty
- Rihanna in stereotypically showing off more

exam style magazine questions
l/o: to write and structure an effective exam style question
the two covers represent gender very differently. cosmopolitan represents tom daily in an anti stereotypical way.for example, he has been dressed in feminine clothes both colour and style.however as a gay man this is more stereotypical as the flamboyant style. on the other hand very masculine representations with the tattoo and muscular physique.
in GQ the gender of Rihanna is represented more stereotypically female as she is more exposed and represented as medusa because she's independent and she's scary. in GQ Rihanna (the star vehicle) was more sexualised for the front cover this was likely to create a borrowed interest of the audience.
in the two magazine GQ and cosmopolitan are very similar . some similarities may be, both of the star vehicle's are more genderly identified adding onto this in cosmopolitan the star vehicle is made to look more manly with his tattoo and physique. on the other hand, Rihanna is more feminine because of her exposure she made more like an object.
in the 2 magazines GQ and cosmopolitan the star vehicles have some differences such as the colour pallets in GQ the colour pallet is quite dull where as in cosmopolitan the colour pallet consists of pinks and yellows. another difference may be that in cosmopolitan the star vehicle has clothes on unlike in GQ.

exam question
explore how this front cover of gq magazine uses media language to communicate meanings
This front cover of GQ magazine uses media language to explore and communicate lots of meanings. One of these meanings is being a guardian angel we can see this in the connotation of his wings this could connote him protecting other players being a 'guardian angel' another connotation of the wings could be linking to his world class career as a footballer as his position is a winger . Raheem sterling the star vehicle is also stood in a very masculine position . the star vehicle Raheem's physique is also very masculine as he is quite in shape and muscular. another meaning could be Raheem's tattoos which stereotypically connote manliness and also could be to do with the recent controversy with Raheem sterlings gun tattoo on his right leg which is the leg he shoots with and because he quotes'" my farther was gunned down in front of me when i was a child so it felt an obvious choice"this is not the only controversy Raheem the star vehicle was involved with as he has also stood up against bullying and racial harassment linking back to the connotation of him being a guardian angel .he decides to stand up against it as he too was bullied at the Manchester city vs Chelsea game in December 2018 where some Chelsea fans made some racist comments.
Another meaning could be to do with the layout and design as we can see in the mast head witch has a very prominent gold colour witch contrasts really nicely with the black of the wings and Raheem's other clothing items this could also connote how stereotypically black and gold are direct opposites and are usually used as good for gold and bad for black however this is not always true. As normal for GQ the colour pallet is quite bland and consisting of gold blacks and greys .

we can compare these two covers using information from the previous slides via throughblack acors and famous people not featured
1. Using the pseudonym Gul Makai, Malala Yousafzai was only 11 when she started blogging about what life was like under the Taliban for the BBC.
2. On October 9, 2012, Malala boarded a bus to advocate for Pakistani girls' education when the Taliban shot her in the head and neck. She was 15. She was not expected to survive her injuries.
3. It was almost two years to the day when Malala was shot that she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She was 17 and the youngest recipient to receive it. She shared the distinguished award with Kailash Satyarthi, another children's rights activist.
4. Malala had plans to be a doctor but has now taken an interest in politics.
5. Because of the violent assassination attempt on Malala, Pakistan announced the creation of the very first Right to Education Bill.
Malala's Story
Malala is a women who was shot by the Taliban and survived she was standing up for women's right to education she now has a trust fund called the Malala fund which supports women in need vogue put her on there cover as a women of power.
amiiimmmi avimimimi the connotations of the colour pallet suggests love and desire which is a good representation as Malala as she's an excellent example of a role model which is vogues thing vogue says Malala is superior activist legend is an under statement as she is a woman of power like bat man
Malala is known for standing up for the right to a women's education and was tragically shot by thee taliban this could be one of many reasons she's a good candidate for this magazine.

ethnicity & gender have been represented as stereotypical, we can see this where Malala the star vehicle has quite fancy and classy clothes this could be due to the stereotypical idea of women wantinig to look nicer than men do this could also. be a reason of the rings / jewellery .

l/o: to practise comparing representations in two covers
similarities :
- both female star vehicle x
- both star. vehicles look very powerfull x
differences :
- malala has quite a religious outfit x
- the colour pallets are different stlye
- malala has her head behind the masthead where as kim k is in front of the mast head
judgement :
there are more differences more differences than similarities x
The two magazine covers have more differences than similarities for example malala has quite a religious outfit where as kim kardashians outfit does not regard her religion this suports my judgement towards there being more differences than similarities.
A similarity between the two star vehicles is both of these star vehicles are presented to look very powerfull in instant fir malala she looks powerful due to her direct address and her red robe which the colour red also connotes power however on the other hand kim k is represented as powerful as her stance and her pose she is set in.
Another similarities for these star vehicles is both of these star vehicles are wearing make up wich could be to support the stereotypical theory of all women/girls wear make up we can see this with kim kardashians face is thickly layered with make up .
A difference to support my theory could be that in the vogue magazine malala has her head behind the mast head connoting that vogue wants to protect and saying she's a part of vogue however kims head is infront of the mast head showing her as more powerfull.
Another difference could be that kim kardashians has been sexually objectified due to male gaze theory conversely malala is looking quite formal this could also be a hint at her beginning of running into politics kim could be sexually objectified due to some late controversy online also in the bible it is a sin to wear a sexual outfit such as kim is wearing in contrast malala is a very religious man contrasting these magazines
In conclusion to these paragraphs the two of these magazines are very different due to opposite sides of religion and outfits.
